As dawn was breaking, I arose with the sun streaming in through my window as it slowly came up over the horizon. The warm shafts of light displayed themselves in a show of radiance and beauty, and the bright melody of the morning songbirds slowly entered my consciousness. Each melody followed it’s own course, but joined together with all the others in a sweet and lilting chorus – melody and harmony as one. Moments like these are so few, like a drop of rain in the desert; the life brought by cool dew in the morning. I could feel the pace of my world slow down; all the struggles and strains of my world faded away into the unimportant for a time, a brief but beautiful time. I sat, basking in the glamorous sunlight and all that is of this world departed from me . . . I was enveloped in a peace so unreal, I dared not believe it was real, and yet it was. This was not the simple imagining of a child, this was a gift of heaven – the caress of my Savior. Even as the moment passed and my mind fell back into reality, I was granted the gift of peace and contentment.
This world has pulled us into the onrushing traffic of pleasure and delight. So much so that we can no longer listen to the small sweet words God whispers to us, unless we manage to remove ourselves from the rushing torrent, and we stop to look around. As sad as it is, there are not many who have been able to escape the sweeping hand of the world’s distractions. But those of us who have, we joyous few, have something those in the world could never understand. They try to satisfy themselves, by running in a never-ending downward spiral, and wear themselves out before there life has begun. Despite their constant turmoil, they mock us. We who retain a pleasure and a joy that surpasses anything the world has to offer, that goes beyond anything they could possibly imagine. Those of us who rest in the Lord’s Will and presence are at peace. If you are searching for true rest, it is found in Jesus Christ. Lay your burden upon his shoulders, for He is strong and mighty. His voice can be heard in the sounds of His creation. The God who created you, the God who loves you, He is waiting for you.
